You may have noticed that this week’s UK media coverage has been very focused on Prime Minister Keir Starmer's engagement of a voice coach who assisted him in preparing for Labour’s response to the Brexit Deal during the December 2020 COVID lockdown (lockdown rules aside - I’m not talking about that here.)
It’s been a turbulent week, sparking plenty of discussion about the value of working with a coach. This got me reflecting on why a voice coach is so essential, why there’s no shame in seeking one, and how it’s a far more common practice than many realise.
Voice coaching is about ease, nervous system regulation and clear thinking - not elocution and shouting. Voice is out breath. When you learn to deploy breath as a speaker you find centredness. I reckon it’s time for a shift in perspective. Since Ai is exponentially overtaking our species in this sphere we might want to lean into our humanity- voice is a big part of that.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
Have a good weekend.
